It's Time We Talk About It
Don’t Talk About the Baby
by Alec Walker & Omeed Nabavi
In 2015, shortly after we started Stereoscope Studios, Ann Zamudio approached us with a documentary concept that she had been developing. Don’t Talk About The Baby is a film that explores the cultural stigmas surrounding pregnancy loss and infertility. We were excited to be asked to oversee the production for the crowdfunding campaign as well as the bulk of the documentary once the campaign was successful.
In the span of 6 months, we traveled from Michigan to Missouri to California, New York, and Washington, DC to interview countless women and their families about their experiences with miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility. What started as a typical production quickly became a deeply emotional experience. As we heard the stories of loss these families experienced from behind our cameras, the weight of this subject really came into focus. This is an issue that affects 1 in 4 women and that shouldn’t be a secret.
We also met with medical professionals and researchers who are working tirelessly to develop solutions for these issues as well as educate the public. All of the stories presented in this film work to shift the social narrative of pregnancy to include these losses; to silence the shame, not the voices, and to shatter the stigma.
We wrapped on our production schedule by the end of 2016, at which point the documentary entered into post-production. Since then we have eagerly awaited its release and are proud to say that it is finally available to the public today!
